Molten Lava Cake

It's cold... So treat yourself!

Molten Lava cakes are relatively easy to make, look great and the batter is forgiving. These delicious cakes are great for dinner parties (and Valentine dinners for two!) because they bake for only 8 to 10 minutes; you can put these in the oven while you're making the coffee for dessert.

Caring for Your Toddler's Smile

Do you remember your mother's constant warnings that thumb sucking would ruin your teeth? Well as it turns out, mother did know best! Thumb sucking can lead to crooked teeth and an abnormal bite. In actuality many habits that children form from birth are not ideal for oral health and should be discouraged from when the child is old enough to understand your instructions.

Once your child's teeth have started to erupt, they are susceptible to decay and need to be cared for as diligently as your adult teeth. Some helpful tips to protect their teeth include:
  • Avoid using sweet sugary substance on the bottle nipple, while encouraging feeding, it also encourages tooth decay.
  • Encourage your child to drink from a cup as early as possible to avoid problems associated with sucking and collecting of liquids against the teeth.
  • If your child takes a bottle to bed, water should be substituted instead of juice or milk to avoid leaving the teeth exposed to sugars over night.
  • Discourage habits such as thumb sucking early to avoid years of potential problems down the road (and who knows where that thumb has been).
  • While teething, gently rubbing the gums or a chilled teething ring for young children can alleviate a lot of pain, in older children over 4, a medical rinse or salt water can help but avoid popsicles or frozen treats and pacifiers.
If you have any questions about toddler oral care, let us know! We're happy to be a part of caring for your child's smile.
